☉ من أجل تضامن عابر للقوى ☉ ◘ For a Trans-Electric Solidarity ◘

في هذا اليوم الجسيم والمؤلم للذكرى الثالثة لتفجير مرفأ بيروت، نعبّر عن تضامننا قلباً وروحاً مع ضحايا التفجير الذين يتعذّر علينا تعدادهم. نتذكّر بحزنٍ وغضبٍ شديدين وبِتَوقٍ عميقٍ إلى تأسيس بنيةٍ تحتيّةٍ تحويليّة، كل أولئك الذين دمغوا في ذواتنا غيظاً وفقداً لامتناهيين، والذين لا يزالون بيننا وإنما موسومين بجراحاتٍ لن تُمحى، والذين تعذّر ذكر أسمائهم وحصر عددهم. نقف متضامنين أيضاً مع الأجيال التي ستأتي،آملين ألّا يشهدوا، كما شهدنا نحن، الأهوال المريعة لإجراميّة البنى التحتية في لبنان المُضَمَّنة في الاقتصاد العالمي السام للحرب والتّجهيل. هذه هي الأسباب التي دفعتنا إلى تأسيس «خريطة الظّلام»، وهي منصّة بحثيّة تشاركيّة تستقصي مفاهيم العالميّة والاتحاد المعرفي من منطلق الزمكانيّة الآنية، المتأزمة والمبهمة.

On this important, painful day commemorating the 3 years that have passed since the Beirut Port Explosion, our hearts go out in grief and in solidarity to the innumerable victims of the blast. We remember, with great sorrow, political fury and a fathomless desire for transformational infrastructure, those who left us in infinite rage and loss, those who remain with us with indelible wounds that were never named and counted and those of the future, whom we hope won’t witness, like us, the uncontainable horrors of Lebanon’s infrastructural criminality within the toxic global economy of war and ignorance. It is for these reasons that we have created “Cartography of Darkness”, a transclusive research platform dedicated to exploring universalisms and the unity of knowledge in our highly obfuscated, crisis-ridden age.

إنطلاقاً من إحاطتنا المعرفيّة بلبنان،يسعى الفصل الافتتاحي للمنصّة والذي يحمل عنوان «من أجل تضامن عابر للقوى» إلى إجراء تحقيقٍ عام وعلنيّ وإلى رسمٍ خرائطيٍّ نقديٍّ يتناول الأنساب الغامضة لتاريخ لبنان التكنو–سياسي والإيكولوجي في قضايا السلب والإبادة البيئية والتَّجهيل، مثابرين على دراسة وتفحّص وحدانيّة المعرفة وشموليّتها. منصتنا الخرائطيّة المعرفيّة هي عبارة عن خريطة تراكمية مُصَوَّتة تتكوّن من عدة تفاعلية وبيانات مكانية، ومستودع وسائط عامة يتيح، وللمرّة الأولى، الإطلاع على المواد البحثية التي تحويها الأرشيفات الشخصية لمجموعةٍ من العلماء والفنانين والصحافيين الاستقصائيين. هذا بالإضافة إلى استخراجات البيانات من الويب وتحميل بحوث نصيّة وصوتيّة ستُنشَرُ بشكلٍ دوري ومنتظم كجزء من سلسة دورية موسمية ستظلُّ مفتوحة لمدّة تسعة أشهر. في «من أجل تضامن عابر للقوى»، نشارك معكم الجزء الأول من سلسلة بحثيّة تتناول البيئة السياسيّة والتاريخ عبر الألفي لمادة الأمونيا، وتتفحّص عن كثب استعمالاتها وتجارتها المتنوّعة في مجال الكيمياء بدءاً من مصر القديمة والصين و الزرادشتية، وصولاً إلى «تثبيتاتها» في العلوم والحروب والزراعات الصناعية. وبينما نسعى إلى مشاركتكم الأدبيات العلمية وأوجه القصور المعرفية المحيطة بتأثيرات استخدام مادّة النيتروجين على البيئة والصحة العامة، نأمل أيضاً أن نتشارك معكم اكتشافات ومعلومات حول تاريخ مادّتَي نترات الأمونيوم وكبريتات الأمونيوم في لبنان، والتي قام بتوثيقها عالم السموميّات البيئية والصيدلي والناشط البيئي الدكتور پيار ماليشيف بيار ماليشاف(١٩٢٥–٢٠١٤)، الذي نخصص لذكراه العزيزة على قلوبنا مساحة المستودع التابع لـلمنصّة . نعمل منذ عدة سنوات على أرشفة وترقيم وموضعة الإرث القيّم الذي تركه الدكتور پيار ماليشيف(١٩٢٥–٢٠١٤)، والتي رافقت تحقيقاته واستطلاعاته المعمّقة والمواظبة والسَّخيّة ومارسته البيئية على مدى السنوات العشر الماضية. نعبّر عن امتناننا الشديد لعائلة پيار ماليشيف التي وضعت ثقتها بنا وائتمنت علينا مواد مسيرته البحثية ووافقت على تحويلها إلى ملكية عامّة. يمكنكم الإطلاع على أبحاث ماليشاف البيئية الهامّة المكونة من مجموعة من الصُّوَر فوتوغرافية والوثائق والمدوّنات البحثية في مستودع المنصة، وهي متاحة لإعادة الاستخدام وللتداول المجاني بموجب رخصة المشاع الإبداعي «V4».

Beginning with our situated knowledge in Lebanon, the platform’s inaugural chapter “FOR A TRANS-ELECTRIC SOLIDARITY” seeks to publicly probe and critically map the obscure genealogies of Lebanon’s techno-political and ecological histories of dispossession, ecocide and agnotology while studying the unity of knowledge. The cognitive mapping platform is comprised of a sonified accretive map made of several layers of interactive strata and spatialized data, a public media repository that makes accessible for the first time research material found in personal archives created by scientists, artists and investigative journalists and the scraped web, new text and audio research published regularly as part of a seasonal periodical/research chapter that remains open for a period of nine months. In “FOR A TRANS-ELECTRIC SOLIDARITY”, we share with you the first part of a research series probing the trans-millennial history and political ecology of ammonia, meticulously examining its diverse applications and trades from the alchemy of Ancient Egypt, China and Zoroastrianism to its modern “fixations” in science, warfare and industrial agriculture. As we attempt to accessibly relay to you scientific literature and knowledge deficiencies around the impacts of nitrogen fixation on the environment and public health, we share with you revelations around the history of ammonium nitrate and ammonium sulphate in Lebanon, documented by ecotoxicologist, herbal pharmacologist and environmental activist Dr. Pierre Malychef(1925-2014) to whom we lovingly dedicate the space of the Repository. Since several years, we have been archiving, digitising, researching and situation the nurturing legacy of Dr. Pierre Malychef(1925-2014) whose timely investigations have been generously and diligently guiding my environmental work in the last 10 years. We are extremely grateful to the Malychef family who trusted us with his work and accepted to turn it into public property. You will find his urgent environmental research comprised of photographs, documents and research notes in the Repository, available for free re-use and circulation under a Creative Commons License V4.

نظراً إلى عزمنا على ألّا ترتبط «خريطة الظّلام» بمجالٍ أو نهجٍ واحدٍ ومحدّد أو بطريقة معالجة وصيغة إنتاج معرفي محصورة، ستجدون عند توغّلكم في المنصّة مساهمات نصيّة ثنائية اللغة وضعها فلاسفة وعلماء وموسيقيون ومتخصّصون في مجالات العلوم والتقانة والمجتمع، وغيرهم. نحن فخورون جداً بنشر المقال الذاتي الانعكاس الذي وضعته المتخصصة في مجال الطاقة والعلوم والتقانة والمجتمع دانا أبي غانم، والذي يحمل عنوان «أزمة الكهرباء التي تسرق وقتنا»، بالإضافة إلى مقال الكاتب والفيلسوف الإيراني رضا نگارستانی تحت عنوان «على أرضٍ ثائرة». كما يسرّنا أيضاً مشاركة البوم قصير للمنتج الموسيقى الإلكترونية والممارس الصوتي عمر عيتاني، و«مانيفستو ٢٠ نقطة» للجَمع المتعدد التخصصات للشتات الأفريقي الأسود «التكنو–ماديّة»، بالتوازي مع بيان «ضوضاء القرن الحادي والعشرين» لـ «إتحاد البحوث الضوضائيّة». بسرورٍ كبير، نشارككم أيضاً مقالاً أدبياً باللغة العربية، بالإضافة إلى شريط سمعي بيوميثولوجي حول تحوّل الضوء وتجلّيه، وضعه الكاتب والمترجم والعازف والدي جي ريان عبد الخالق، المعروف أيضاً بإسم «مودّة». كل هذا بالإضافة إلى قصيدة ثنائية اللغة بعنوان «اتقاد لا ننساه» للكاتبة كاتمة أمينة، وتقرير تكنو–سياسي من إعداد الصحفي الموسيقي والدي–جي هنا كيل حول «تأثير التمييز في جوازات السفر وسياسات الهجرة العنصرية والعرقيّة على تنقل الفنانين والفنانات». وباعتبار أن أحد الأهداف الرئيسية لمنصّتنا هو التفكّر ملياً في ممارسات الترجميّة وتعزيزها في العصر الرقمي الذي نعيشه، يسعدنا أن ننشر ترجمة «تمرّد ضد الاستخراج»، لـ ريجين ساهاكيان، وهو مقال لاذع حول البيئة السياسية لانتفاضة تشرين في العراق وعلاقاتها بالاستخراج وبإبادة الطاقة. وُضِعَ هذا المقال في تضامنٍ وتكافلٍ ينبع من منظور همجيّة وعنف حكومة الولايات المتحدة الأمريكيّة التجهيلي. وبما أننا نشعر بالحاجة الملحّة في عالمنا الأغنوفيلي للتأمّل في طُرُقٍ مركزة وسهلة الإتاحة لمشاركة الممارسات العلميّة بطريقة مفتوحة وعلانيةً وشموليّة، اخترنا في هذا الفصل الافتتاحي إعادة نشر ثلاثة نصوص علمية حول خراطة الجينات المظلمة والميكروبات المعتمة والمادة السوداء الكامنة في الكون وفي أجسادنا. نتقدّم بالشّكر إلى الباحثين والباحثات الذين جعلوا أعمالهم متاحة لتحقيق هذا الهدف.

As “Cartography of Darkness” is very purposefully not bound to a specific discipline, mode of address and format of knowledge production, you will find on the platform bilingual contributions by philosophers, scientists, musicians and STS scholars, among others. We are very honoured to publish STS and energy scholar Dana Abi Ghanem’s self-reflexive commissioned essay “The Electricity Crisis that Is Taking Away Our Time” alongside Reza Negarestani’s “Globe of Revolution”, and to share electronic music producer and sound practitioner Omar Itani’s EP alongside, the Afro-diasporic and Black materialist multidisciplinary collective TECHNOMATERIALISM’s “Twenty Point Manifesto” in parallel with Noise Research Union(NRU)’s pamphlet “21st CENTURY NOISE). With great delight, we share with you a literary essay in Arabic, as well as, a biomythographic mix around the transfiguration of light by writer, translator, performer and DJ Rayan Abdelkhalek, aka MAWADa, alongside a poem entitled “INCANDESCENCE IS INDELIBLE” written bilingually by AlKatiba Katima Amina and a techno-political and a short techno-political report by music journalist and DJ Hanna Keil on “The Impact of Passport Discrimination and Racialised Migration Policies on Artist Mobility”. Since one of our main platform objectives is to mindfully think of and advance translation practices in a highly digitised age, we are very honoured to publish a translation of Rijin Sahakian’s “Extraction Rebellion”, a trenchant essay on the political ecology of the Iraq’s Tishreen Uprising and its links to extraction and energicide, written down with timely solidarity from the perspective of the ignorance and violence of the US. As we feel a great need within our agnophilic world to think of accessible and situated ways to communicate scientific work in an open access, transclusive manner, for this opening chapter we chose to republish 3 scientific papers around mapping dark genes, dark microbiomes and dark matter in the universe and in our bodies. We thank the researchers who made their work accessible for this purpose.
