Our hearts go out in grief, in rage and in solidarity with the innumerable victims of the IOF Pager Attack. Over 2,800 injured and 8 killed in Lebanon through an IOF attack targeting portable telecommunication devices known as pagers/bleepers. Hundreds of pagers imploded at the same time this Tuesday afternoon, killing a child and seven civilians while injuring thousands civilians, Hezbollah members and their families and the Iranian ambassador to Lebanon.

This is not a “cyber attack”, per se. This is one of the most horrendous terrorist attacks we have witnessed, so far. The IOF has literally weaponized telecommunication devices that are most commonly used by hospital staff, as well as, security personnel.

Ever since the 1982 Invasion of Lebanon, Isalie has been notorious for brutally targeting Lebanon’s infrastructure. Yet what infrastructure is left to target in Lebanon after five decades of failed occupation, 15 years of “civil” war, the 2006 July War, the 2020 Beirut Port Tafjir and 5 years of acute economic crisis that has left the population with a very scant and intermittent access to water, electricity and liquidity?

In this prompt and succinct report, we will share a brief, preliminary techno-political analysis that shows how the IOF Pager Attack is an infrastructural, terrorist attack, as opposed to a classical cyber attack. While keeping in mind that a thorough investigation is necessary to unravel how the IOF Pager Attack was carried, we will first share with you our response to public speculations around what we don’t think could have caused this attack. Then, we will share our current speculations around the existing type of military technologies that could be abused to create such horrendous and far-reaching terrorism. Finally, we will share our viewpoints around the environmental and techno-political material conditions that need to be considered when investigating and seeking justice for the victims of the IOF Pager Attack.

🗝️ Looking at how the wireless transmission system of pagers/bleepers operate, this cannot be “a malware attack”;

🗝️ Looking at the precise timing and concurrence of the assault across several areas in Lebanon, this increases the likeliness of the use of an implanted detonation method installed within the hardware of the pagers;

🗝️ In order to calculate the combustibility and reaction mass of the pager model that imploded, we would need to probe the combustibility and reaction mass of each hardware component of the imploded model, both in isolation and interconnectively, while also mapping out the wireless infrastructure that could connect to it and interfere in its relay system;🗝️ For that, we would need to extensively study the radar transmissions of the day within both known and unknown military frequency ranges used by all of the IOF and the US Air Force that have been unlawfully positioned within Lebanon’s subaerial fields, territorial waters and their vicinity;

🗝️ For example, on the 16th and 17th of September 2024, two US Air Force electronic attack aircrafts known as the EC-130H Compass Call were spotted actively flying above Lebanon in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. The EC-130H electronic attack aircraft is heavily modified to disrupt command and control communications, perform offensive counter-information operations, and carry out undisclosed types of electronic attacks. Anti-militarist researchers and technologists urgently need to find ways to map out and probe:

1-  the routes and signals taken/sent by the EC-130Hs over Lebanon and Palestine;

2- the agnogenesis(the production of ignorance) around the undisclosed capabilities of the EC-130H;

3- the ways the above could interact with the wireless communication architecture and the hardware components of the pagers.

The same will need to be repeated for all relevant aircrafts and vessels.

🗝️ Ever since Project Westford(1958-1963), the U.S.’ Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and Isalie’s Directorate of Defense Research and Development (DDR&D )have been actively developing nanotechnology for use in warfare. While this field is highly classified, we know that nano-individual explosives exist since several decades and have been widely tested during the Occupation of Iraq. We cannot rule out that nano-thermites, or nano-individual explosives were planted inside of the recent model of pagers on their way to Lebanon, especially that neither Isalie, nor the U.S. care a fig about civilian casualties;

🗝️ Researchers and technologists would need to obviously map out the shipment route of the pagers/bleepers model that imploded. This is a process that takes time and necessitates cooperation from several bodies.

Nothing in the world can ever justify weaponizing a web of emergency communication devices to murder its carrier and their vicinity.This colonial terror cannot be contained, and it urgently needs to be halted. The IOF Pager Attack should be promptly investigated, reinvestigated and never repeated. This is an urgent task to be carried collectively. Militarization is the enemy of history, for it is the chief producer of ignorance. The people of Palestine, of Lebanon and of all of the world deserve to live in freedom and dignity. The U.S. needs to be very urgently demilitarized and decolonized away from our air, land and sea. While the IOF thinks it can erase all traces by turning an emergency communication device into a self-imploding weapon, we will never cease to trace, and come together towards transformative justice.
